چکیده

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, a potentially fatal obesity-related condition, affects more than 70 million people in the United States. Nurses are well-positioned to impact this genetically influenced disease by is increasing awareness, providing patient education, and advocating for affected persons.

PNPLA3-associated steatohepatitis: toward a gene-based classification of fatty liver disease.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is one of the most common hepatic disorders worldwide. Given the high-calorie nutrition of children and adults, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is expected to become a major cause of cirrhosis and eventually liver transplantation. Familial clustering and ethnic differences indicate that genetic factors contribute to NAFLD. Recently, the common variant p...

Association of polymorphisms in GCKR and TRIB1 with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and metabolic syndrome traits.

In several genome-wide association studies, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and alanine aminotransferase susceptibility variants have been identified in several genes, including LYPLAL1, ZP4, GCKR, HSD17B13, PALLD, PPP1R3B, FDFT1, TRIB1, COL13A1, CPN1, ERLIN1, CWF19L1, EFCAB4B, PZP, and NCAN. To investigate the relationship between these genes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in the Japane...

Effect of Kelussia odoratissima Mozaff extract on PNPLA3 gene expression in non-alcoholic fatty liver and control rats

Background and Aims: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with such symptoms as steatosis, fibrosis, and liver cirrhosis. Kelussia has attracted assiduous attention due to its protective effects on the liver. The PNPLA3 gene is mainly expressed in the liver and plays a major role in the degradation rate of hepatic triglycerides. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess th...

Circulating triacylglycerol signatures in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease associated with the I148M variant in PNPLA3 and with obesity.

We examined whether relative concentrations of circulating triacylglycerols (TAGs) between carriers compared with noncarriers of PNPLA3(I148M) gene variant display deficiency of TAGs, which accumulate in the liver because of defective lipase activity. We also analyzed the effects of obesity-associated nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) independent of genotype, and of NAFLD due to either P...

Association of rs738409 Polymorphism in the PNPLA3 Gene with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease and has an estimated incidence of 20%–30% in the general population and 67%–75% in the obese population. Genetic predisposition can play an important role in development of this disease. Nonsynonymous coding SNP rs738409 C/G (I148Met) in the PNPLA3 gene has been found to be associated with the presence of...
